Read from the concrete upward
Preparation defines the surface the first layer will meet. Ask how old material, contamination and damage will be handled, and how the specified surface profile will be checked. A layer diagram should not omit the substrate work.
Separate layer roles from marketing names
A primer may have a specific bonding or substrate-management role. A base coat can provide the foundation for decorative media. A topcoat controls the final surface according to the selected product. Some systems combine roles or omit a separate primer; the manufacturer's system instructions should explain that decision.
