Guidance by Scenic City Garage Coatings. Reviewed October 6, 2026. Planning information; onsite suitability is confirmed by the contractor.
Start with the party responsible for the repair
A product warranty and an installation warranty can have different issuers. Ask for the legal name of the installer, the manufacturer of each system layer, and the party you would contact if the surface began lifting. Save that answer beside the signed scope.
A manufacturer document may address the material while the installer handles preparation and workmanship. Ask who investigates a disputed failure and who arranges access to the garage. A brochure phrase such as “warranty included” leaves those practical questions unanswered.
Use a four-part coverage worksheet
| Part | Ask for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Covered condition | Examples of peeling, blistering, discoloration or wear that qualify | Different defects may have different treatment. |
| Excluded cause | Terms for moisture, slab movement, chemicals and misuse | A visible failure may be excluded because of its cause. |
| Repair scope | Removal, preparation, materials, labor and any appearance limitations | A patch can differ from the surrounding finish. |
| Claim process | Contact route, evidence required and inspection procedure | You need a usable path after installation. |
Ask how moisture and cracks were handled before coating
If a proposal excludes moisture-related failures, ask how the contractor will assess the slab before installation and whether the proposed system has a documented limit for that condition. Request the recorded results and the relevant product data sheet. See the concrete moisture guide for the difference between an observation and a system-specific test.
Likewise, ask whether a filled crack can remain visible or reopen if the concrete moves. “Crack repair included” should identify the repair allowance and the limits of that work. A decorative coating proposal should not quietly become a structural-repair promise.
Read transfer and use conditions separately
Does coverage follow the owner or the property? Is transfer automatic, or does it require notice? Does the same term apply to an interior garage, an outdoor threshold and commercial use? These are different questions; record each answer rather than assuming a single headline covers everything.
As a real example of why scope matters, Hello Garage’s published warranty page distinguishes interior coatings from exterior and commercial coatings and describes transferability. That is another company’s policy, not a warranty offered by Scenic City Garage Coatings or its contractor.
Keep a small handover folder
- The accepted quote, invoice and written warranty.
- The system names and any substrate assessment supplied by the installer.
- Photos at handover, including the threshold, joints and repaired areas.
- The cleaning instructions and written return-to-service schedule.
If a problem develops, photograph the area and contact the issuer before applying a patch, cleaner or new coating that could complicate the assessment. Our final inspection checklist helps you collect the right records at the start.
Questions this site cannot answer for the contractor
We have not published a contractor-specific warranty, guaranteed response time, or promise of a lifetime finish. Those terms must come from the contractor’s own written agreement. Use our garage floor coating guide to understand the scope, then request a project conversation or call 317-509-9873 with your city and slab condition.
